A warm welcome to all of you to the 8th Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between 22nd and 24th November 2010 (ACNS 2010).

The first formal Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons was held in Pakistan in 1997 although the concept was mooted much earlier to provide training for young neurosurgeons in the developing countries of Asia. The founders, led by Professor Tetsuo Kanno, eventually established the ACNS. Through the ACNS, there has been numerous young neurosurgeons who were sponsored to attend the Congress where they were exposed to the latest progress & knowledge on neurosurgery as well as on surgical techniques.

The Congress will be preceeded by 2 days of workshops on endoscopy, microvascular anastomosis and spine together with live surgeries between 20th and 21st November 2010. The scientific programme will consist of plenary sessions, symposia , free papers and posters. It will cover extensively topics on brain tumours, vascular surgery, trauma, critical care, endoscopy, spine, functional surgery, skull base surgery, radiosurgery and neurorestoratology involving stem cells. This Congress will target learning for young neurosurgeons and the exchange of ideas and upgrading of skills and knowledge amongst established neurosurgeons in Asia. The spirit of financial aid for young participants from less developed Asian nations will be adhered to despite some constraints from the recent global economy slow down.

We welcome all our colleagues from countries in Asia and also other parts of the world to participate in this important international event and encourage everyone to take this opportunity to visit Malaysia. There will be spouse programme in addition to the multiple choices of pre- and post- congress optional tours made available with the co-operation from Tourism Malaysia. The organising committee will make every effort to ensure your participation in the congress worthy and your visit and stay with the accompanying persons in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia a most pleasant and memorable one.

Looking forward to see you all in Kuala Lumpur in November 2010! “SELAMAT DATANG” to Malaysia.
